How does it work?
Examiner AI compares a submitted answer and related question / stem with marking criteria for the selected qualification and question type. Examiner AI then assigns a grade or level, provides marks, and delivers feedback, briefly outlining the rationale behind the awarded score.
How accurate is the grading?
Examiner AI uses bespoke marking prompts based on bespoke assessment logic created by tutor2u’s subject specialists. While these prompts are extensively tested against a bank of standardised answers, accuracy can vary between responses, particularly where answers sit close to a boundary. Examiner AI is a formative tool designed to guide improvement and should always be used alongside human judgement rather than as a substitute for it.
How does it compare to a human examiner?
Examiner AI offers the advantage of instant feedback and consistency in applying mark schemes, and it is available 24/7! However, it is not necessarily better than human examiners who bring experience, professional judgement, and an ability to interpret more complex or nuanced answers, particularly in subjective or creative questions.
Exam marking is a skill and human examiners are able to use their subjective judgement to support a given grade. AI is a helpful tool for students to gauge their performance and improve their answers, but it should complement, rather than replace, human feedback.
How long does it take to evaluate my answer?
Once you click ‘Mark answer’, the AI will process the submitted question, stem and answer. Feedback typically takes 10-30 seconds, although more complex questions may take slightly longer.
How is data privacy handled?
Examiner AI is built on a privacy-first architecture. Users are strictly instructed not to submit personal data. However, should PII (Personally Identifiable Information) be inadvertently submitted, our processing protocols are designed to treat all inputs as anonymous. We comply with relevant data protection regulations (including UK GDPR) to ensure user data is protected.
